On 2nd July 1976 the temperature reached 92°F at the local annual regatta where, ("Tsk! Whatever next?") because of the heat, the gentlemen were allowed to remove their jackets but of course not their ties in the Stewards' Enclosure. Read the blog posting for 2nd July 2008.

It’s almost depressing to write this month's summary but let's see if we can draw some positives! Of course from a meteorological perspective it's what we weather anoraks rely on. Don’t get me wrong I love good weather as much anyone but do thrive on it when it's out of the ordinary. As seems to be the case here, in the most part we seemed to get off quite lightly with most of the worst of the weather elsewhere. Saying that I did record the wettest June since my records began here. Getting near the 100mm mark. That's around 4 inches. I also put out a manual rain gauge to help me double check and calibrate the rainfall with the computer and this was almost spot on. Out of the 30 days we managed to only get 6 days on which no rain was recorded. So on the remaining 24 it did with a grand total of 91mm (3.58 inches) where we could on average expect 54.5 mm (2.14 inches). It will be interesting to see where it turned out to be the wettest, bearing in mind that in this month in 1917 over 242mm (9.52 inches) was recorded; not for the month but the day!! The wettest day this month was 14.6mm (0.57 inches). Believe it or not we did have some warm days mixed in. So this probably won't go down as the coldest by quite a way. 8 days being in the low to mid 20°C. In 1916 it never got above 20°C for any days with the warmest day being the 28th at 27.7°C. The month as a whole was 1°C down from the average on the maximum of 19.5°C this month 18.5°C. The minimum down from 10.5°C to 9.98°C. And as we know it was quite windy for much of the month. Here's hoping for July. From where I am sitting now I cannot see any real chance of improvement to the middle of the month. Still it could all change for the better. We hope?
